Please read this page entirely before submitting any demos.
Blame Records was originally created by independent singer-songwriter & producer Brent Orndorff in 2003. The indie label's original recording studio was located in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana near the campus of ISU and later relocated to a private studio. Over the years, the label has gone through several transformations and will now serve as an indie artist development resource and a professional production company for fitting artists. Keep in mind that Blame Records isn't a traditional indie label - we will not "sign deals" to release albums or singles by other artists on the Blame Records label.
The focus here is on offering resources to artists in the form of workshops, videos, podcasts and more. We do however offer assistance to select artists and we will work with them on songwriting, development, production, booking recording sessions, mixing, mastering and ultimately releasing and promoting your own music.
So why should you care about working with Blame Records?
- Our partnership with Dark Horse Recording in Franklin, TN allows us to book sessions at their amazing multi-platinum facilities for a VERY good rate and we want to pass this opportunity along to other artists! We encourage you to your homework. Dark Horse produced Taylor Swift's triple platinum album and their recent projects include Matchbox Twenty's new album.
- Our past accomplishments include a dozen song placements on national TV and mainstream video games.
- We also own a private Pro Tools studio and we can offer demo recording, mixing and mastering. This is also offered for a better rate (and better quality) than your cousin or friend who has a studio in their bedroom or basement. : )
- We're all independent songwriters / musicians / producers / audio engineers too! We've learned a lot over the years and we want to pass our knowledge and experience on to you.
- We want to make sure you know everything you need to know to move forward with your music.
- The topics we'll cover include:
- What is worth paying for vs. which free services are worthwhile?
- Do I need copyrights? What is a PRO? How do I get paid music royalties?
- Why do I need ISRC / UPC codes and where do I get them?
- How to stand out among thousands of other artists
- Social Networking & Building a Fan base
- Gear Talk
- DIY Graphic Design for Musicians
- Recording Tips
- Songwriting 101
These topics will be covered through free podcasts, YouTube videos, online workshops and hopefully live events.
If you feel you're ready to record in a professional recording studio environment, please contact us at blamerecords@live.com to submit a demo or audition. It should be obvious by now that we aren't in this just to make money (many of our resources will be free) and our donated time is precious to us. To put it bluntly, we won't waste time producing or developing artists that aren't yet ready for a professional studio session or release. On the flip side of that, we won't waste your money booking studio time.
If you aren't sure if you're ready, contact us anyway and we'll give you free advice on what we think you need to develop.
In the meantime, check out our "Helpful Links" section and look for our first free "Artist Workshop" podcast coming soon!
Thanks,
Brent Orndorff
