Recording

So you're interested in recording your music? We can help you get a recording that you can be proud of!

Dark Horse Recording

We have three options when it comes to recording.
  1. We can record on location with our portable Pro Tools studio.
  2. We can record, mix & master at our "Purple Room" studio in Indiana.
  3. We can book studio sessions at the legendary Dark Horse studios near Nashville, TN and assist with production at their facilities.
It's your call which of these options make the most sense for you. Here are some things to consider:
  • The on-location option is best for live shows or a first demo. You'll be amazed how good you can sound recording in a living room! Keep in mind there is a limit on how far we'll travel for on-location and rates will take travel expense into account.
  • Our studio in Indiana is ideal if you're in need of a demo, want to release a DIY album on the cheap, or need mixing or mastering services.
  • Dark Horse Recording is the ideal choice if you need hi-fidelity radio quality recordings or a single/album which sounds just as good as any major label release.
We tailor our prices based on the project but here's a general guide:
  • For on-location: Expect to spend at least $300 bucks for recording on location. This rate will be more depending on the location and complexity of set up for live scenarios. This rate would include mixing and burning to CD or thumb drive you provide.
  • For our Purple Room studio: Roughly $50 per hour for recording, with a minimum of 4 hours booked, for a total of $200 minimum. Also keep in mind the time required for mixing and mastering. Mixing is booked at the same rate of $50 per hour and mastering is $100 per song with that rate lowering dependent on the amount of songs (i.e. $90 per song for 5 songs or more, $80 per song for 10 songs or more)
  • For Dark Horse Recording - We can't publicly share our rates for booking session in their studios. Contact us with your goals and a demo submission and we'll get you a proposal for a tailored recording session along with cost details.
If you've skipped to the "Recording" page before reading the "About" page... we suggest you head over there and read through before contacting us for recording services.

Also, if you would like to send a submission for recording consideration, please use soundcloud.com to send your demo
or if you're auditioning on video, please use YouTube.com and send us the link.

You should also be aware that agreements must be signed ahead of any project so that each party is clear on what is expected. While we wish we could work on a handshake...that's not realistic in today's world and it's in everyone's best interest to have a detailed agreement in writing and signed by everyone involved.
